Two of the Southwestern Athletic Conference juggernauts going headed in Week 7. The Prairie View A&M Panthers led by Coach Eric Dooley (2-3) came into Baton Rouge prepared for what was expected to be a shoot out against the Southern University Jaguars (2-3). The Jaguars led by Dawson Odums are an impressive 13-1 in their last 14 games at home. Both offenses are among the best in the SWAC and this game was sure to live up the hype. The Panthers coming off a victory in Dallas against the Grambling State Tigers felt the momentum was riding on their side. The Jaguars coming off their blowout win verses Arkansas Pine Bluff were prepared to get on a streak.

1st Quarter

The game started off with Southern University driving down the field early in the game. Southern was able to strike first on an end around to wide receiver Jamar Washington to open the game up and give the Jaguars a 7-0 lead. Prairie View would not allow the Jaguars keep them down long. After converting on a crucial 4th and 8  and a penalty that offset a touchdown for the Panthers; Quarterback Jalen Morton was able to hit wide receiver Kalen Riles on a quick slant for a touchdown to tie the game at 7-7. With 5:20 remaining in the 1st quarter, Prairie View stopped the Jaguars on 3rd down to force a punt that was blocked and recovered by the Panthers at the Jaguars 13 yard line. The Jaguars defense stood tall in the midst of going down 14-7 early in the game and forced the panthers into a 37 yard field goal, in which their kicker pushed wide to keep the score at 7-7. The Jaguars were unable to take advantage of the momentum shift after Ladarius Skelton threw an ill advised interception to Defensive Back Drake Cheatum who returned the ball to the Southern 21 following a penalty. After great field position and driving the ball near the endzone, Jalen Morton turned the ball over through the air after the Southern defender Tamaurice Smith jumped a slant route in the Panthers end zone. The Panthers self destructed through the first 15 minutes of the ball game leaving 10 points on the board from the missed field goal and interception in their own end zone.

End of 1st Quarter: PV 7 SU 7

2nd Quarter

Early in the 2nd quarter Southern University came out  big after Ladarius Skelton scrambled out of the pocket to hit wide receiver Timothy Thompson for a 40+ yard gain pushing the ball into Panthers territory down to the PV 20 yard line. On a  quick slant off the play action Ladarius Skelton connected with Hunter Register on a 3 yard touchdown pass to give the Jaguars a 14-7 lead with 11:15 remaining in the 2nd quarter to capitalize off the Panther Turnover in their own end zone. Prairie View would not allow the game to get away that easy. The panthers were able to convert on 2 3rd downs with completions of 30+ yards and a 16 yard pass to get the ball into the red zone down to the SU 17 yard line with 7:12 remaining. On a 4th and 12 the Panthers made the bold call to go for it with a trick play reverse to Tristen Wallace who lost his footing in the backfield for a 12 yard loss and turnover on downs. The struggles for the Panthers continued after Jalen Morton found running back Dawonya Tucker in stride, but the ball went through his hands in what would have been a huge gain for the panthers. The 2nd quarter ended with less fire works and more Prairie view missed opportunities.

End of 2nd quarter: PV 7 SU 14

3rd Quarter

In the middle of the 3rd Quarter Ladarius Skelton threw his 2nd interception of the night which was returned for a Prairie View touchdown by Jaylen Harris tying the game up at 14-14 with 8:06 remaing in the quarter. The Jaguars got the ball back and almost had their 3rd pass intercepted by  Tariq Mulmore, instead 2 plays later Ladarius Skelton converted on a 3rd and 12 to Timothy Thompson. On a 3rd and 15 which would have been an easy 1st down, the Jaguars pass was dropped by an open receiver making it 4th down. On the next play Kicker Cesar Barajas nailed a 44 yard field goal to give the Jaguars a 17-14 lead with 2 minutes left in the 3rd quarter. The Panthers continued to miss opportunities after a deep pass by Jalen Morton was dropped by wide receiver Kelejawan Chriss which would have put the Panthers near the Jaguars 5 yard line. The next play resulted in a Panthers blocked punt recovered by the Jaguars at the Prairie View 20 yard line to end the quarter.
